Part 1 of 2  ·  Where things stand today

Soular sounds incredible.
Right now, the website undersells it.

Before we design anything new, let's take an honest look at where things stand: on your site today, and on four of the bands clients are comparing you to.

A Look In The Mirror

Your website, as it exists right now

This is soular.ca, live and unedited below. Scroll around inside it. This is exactly what a potential client sees the moment they land on the page.

Let's Start With The Good

What's already working in your favour

This redesign isn't starting from zero. There's real substance here. It's the presentation that needs to catch up.

One

15+ years on Toronto stages

Soular has been a working, respected name in Toronto weddings, parties and corporate events longer than most competitors have even existed.

Two

Genuinely glowing reviews

Real clients, real praise, and a lot of it. That's the kind of word-of-mouth most bands would kill for.

Three

Trusted by the industry

Listed with WeddingWire, EventSource and WedLuxe, the exact platforms clients use to vet entertainment before they ever call.

Four

A true one-stop shop

Band, DJ, and full audio/video production all under one roof. Most competitors only offer part of that.

Now, The Honest Part

Where the current site is letting you down

None of this is about the band. It's entirely about how the website represents it. Here's what a potential client actually runs into today.

The booking form might not work properlyHighest priority

The Book Now page carries a notice saying the site is "experiencing some issues with our contact forms" and asking visitors to get in touch directly if they aren't taken to a Thank You page. We can't tell from the outside whether the form is actually failing or the notice is just a leftover, so we can't confirm it works every time. Either way, a warning on the one page meant to turn interest into bookings makes clients hesitate, and any inquiry that doesn't go through is a booking lost.

The reviews look like a mistake

Some five-star-sounding testimonials are shown right next to a "2.0 rating" label. It reads as a glitch, and glitches make people trust everything else on the page a little less.

It feels stuck several years in the past

Most of the performance videos are over a decade old, and the site itself hasn't visibly changed in a couple of years. For a band performing constantly today, that's the wrong first impression to give.

There's no one to actually meet

No names, no faces, no musician bios anywhere on the site. Clients are hiring real people to make their event. Right now, they can't see who those people are.

It's slow to load, especially on phones

A large video starts playing automatically the second the page opens. On a phone, on mobile data, in a parking lot between venue tours, that's exactly the wrong moment to make someone wait.

The writing could describe almost any band

Nothing on the page captures what actually makes Soular's sound and story different. It reads like a template, not like the band people are raving about in their own reviews.

New clients may have trouble finding you

Many people discover a band by searching online, and the way the site is set up may be keeping Soular out of those results. The site describes itself mostly as a wedding band, even though Soular also plays corporate events, private parties and bars. There are no pages for those services, so someone searching for a party band or a corporate event band has little reason to land here. A few behind-the-scenes details, like missing picture descriptions and slow loading, can also hold the site back in search results.

Who Else Is In The Room

How Soular stacks up against the competition

We looked at four other established Toronto live-event bands (TTK Events, St. Royal Entertainment, Stereo Flavour, and Parkside Drive) because clients are comparing you against all of them, often in the very same browser tab.

Soular has the strongest track record of the group: 15+ years, real reviews, real range of services. The site just isn't saying so yet.

Next: what the new site could look like

The good news is everything above is fixable, and most of it comes down to presentation, not substance. Part two of this proposal walks through real design directions for the new site.
